Sunday Service

July 5 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

“Liberty of Conscience: America at 250” with Rev. Mark Skrabacz, Minister Emeritus – America’s greatness has never come from religious uniformity. It comes from the radical and fragile promise that people of many beliefs—and of no belief—can live together in freedom, dignity and mutual covenant.

When the Founders of our Nation authored our Constitution’s Establishment Clause, they did so to protect both government and religion from corrupting one another. My purpose for today’s Service is to frame America’s 250th anniversary not as belonging to any one religion or political movement, but as an unfinished democratic and moral experiment grounded in liberty of conscience. I will show that we can affirm patriotism while challenging attempts to narrow American identity into a single theological or political tradition.

We can and should celebrate our country for the fullness and richness of its many parts. Let us commemorate unity but not uniformity on this 250th National Celebration of our founding.
