“San Antonio Heritage” with guest speaker Juan Tejeda – Juan Tejeda retired in 2016 from Palo Alto College in San Antonio, Texas where he was a professor of Mexican American Studies and Music. He is a musician, writer, educator, arts administrator, ex-Jefe of Xinachtli – the first traditional Mexica-Azteca Conchero dance group in Texas, activist and publisher. For 18 years, from 1980-1998, he was the Xicano Music Program Director for the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center where, among his many duties, he founded and directed the annual Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio, now in its 43rd year. He and his wife, Anisa Onofre, are the owners and publishers of Aztlan Libre Press, an independent publishing company that is dedicated to the publishing and promotion of Indigenous/Xicanx literature and art. To date they have published sixteen authors. Juan is also the button accordionist and vocalist for the Conjunto Aztlan; and last year, in 2024, his book about his older brother Frank, Mi Carnal Frank/A Family Memoir and Biography of U.S. Congressman Frank Mariano Tejeda Jr., 1945-1997, was published by FlowerSong Press.
