Immigration Justice
We are a Sanctuary Congregation. We protect and defend refugees, asylum seekers, and at-risk immigrants.
First UU Organizations
Social Justice Committee
Our members work individually in coordination with community partners, to protect and defend at-risk immigrants. We oppose government policies of deportation and discrimination. Our faith teaches love and justice as well as respect for all in our common humanity, and we object to the unlawful and cruel targeted mass harassment of people who are merely trying to work, raise families, and contribute to our communities. We strive to create safe places in our church and in our city, by working alongside other promoting dignity and human rights.
The Social Justice Committee (SJC) has designated member(s) to work with our immigration justice partners in the larger community. Members of our committee and individuals in our congregation volunteer with groups that provide hospitality, food, and clothing, and accompany individuals to immigration proceedings.
We have developed guidelines for our congregation regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers on campus.
