Gender & Sexuality Justice
We are a Welcoming Congregation. Families and individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities contribute to the joyful life of this church.
First UU Organizations
Social Justice Committee
The Social Justice Committee (SJC) has designated member(s) to work with our congregation and our gender and sexuality justice partners in the larger LGBTQ+ community. We strive to continue the work of the Rainbow Inclusion Committee since its hiatus in 2023. First UU was originally named a “Welcoming Congregation” in 2002 by the national UUA. Our members honor this designation and work to contribute to the planning of church services during the year, and other activities and projects for our congregants that uplift themes of LGBTQ+/TGQNB welcome and inclusion.
At First UU, we recognize the inherent worth and dignity of all people, acknowledge their unique history of oppression, and recognize threats and loss of freedoms faced by LGBTQ+ people today. SJC members work in coordination with partner organizations to promote awareness and participation in community events that provide all members of our congregation with opportunities to put their faith and principles into action.
