The Courageous Love Award (CLA) is a non-monetary honor presented to individuals or organizations that have exhibited courage in their work to advance a loving goal in the broader community beyond our own congregation. Presenting a Courageous Love Award is an opportunity to reach beyond our core social justice folks and to engage our whole congregation and community in celebrating excellent social justice work. It is also a chance to uplift others, strengthen and support partnerships we are already developing, and to join together with joy and with purpose those who have shared values.
Each year, the First UU Social Justice Committee (SJC) organizes and administers the Courageous Love Award and selects appropriate recipients to receive our honorary framed certificate according to protocol. The SJC chairs or designees present the award to the selected recipient individual(s) or organizations as part of the MLK weekend worship service and host a reception for recipients following the service.
