Job Description: Paid Youth Advisor

Title: Youth Advisor

Goal: To promote the spiritual growth and transformation of the youth of First UU Church San Antonio. Youth advisers engage in a ministry with youth that emphasizes fun, religious identity, community, and the democratic process.

Position qualifications: High energy, self-directed, organized mature person who relates well with teenagers and adults, has the ability to facilitate group activities and nurture youth leadership skills and embraces the values, principles and practices of the Unitarian Universalist faith.
Youth advisers must be at least 25 years old and pass a background screening for major offenses.

Time Commitment:

• One hour every Sunday morning
• One hour per week prep and communications
• Remaining hours based on need, up to five hours per month

Pay rate: $20/hour

Duties: 

• Meet with DLRE monthly to discuss issues and progress
• Assist youth in developing a meaningful and fun YRUU program
• Assure safety of youth at all activities. 
• Assist in logistics for youth events. 
• Serve as a mentor and a good role model
• Assist youth in planning annual youth worship
• Serve as a link between the youth and adult communities in the congregation.
• If able, drive youth to and from events
• Comply with all First Church policies and when participating in district events with Southern region policies.
• serve on the youth-adult committee, if it is active
• With youth, plan a program that addresses the eight elements of the web of youth ministry
• Attend to your own personal spiritual growth and transformation by attending worship services and other First UU SA programs
• Do all of this while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Be aware of youth group budget and keep expenditures within the budget. To be reimbursed for expenses, fill out a voucher form, available in the church office. Attach receipt(s), and submit to church office administrator. Out of town mileage may be reimbursed at the rate of $.565/mile.
