In 2019, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America sent Rev. Paul Ziese to Berlin as part of their delegation to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the end of the Cold War and Berlin Wall. Participants in the Peaceful Revolution told the Americans in attendance about their experience resisting the rise of authoritarianism and their concern for the United States. During this presentation Rev. Paul will share some of their suggestions for surviving and resisting authoritarian rulers, and we will explore together if there are examples for us in the United States at this moment we find ourselves. Presented by SA Stands, a non-partisan collaborative in the city of San Antonio and Bexar County that works towards the abolishment of systems that are inherently racist and dehumanizing, and sponsored by First UU’s Social Justice Committee.
