Earth-based traditions: The Sixth UU Source

April 27, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

April 2022: Path of Faith Formation, Foundations

Our sixth and UU last source calls us to affirm and promote the spiritual teachings of earth centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. In this class, we will discuss common themes in earth centered traditions which include reciprocity, gratitude, and the cycles of the seasons and life and death. To explore these themes, we will look at the intersection of western science and indigenous wisdom that Robin Wall Kimmerer so poetically writes about in books such as Braiding Sweetgrass. We will also use examples from ecofeminists and western nature writers work such as Terry Tempest Williams, religious scholars in the deep ecology movement such as Thomas Berry, and indigenous traditions that go back to the beginning of humanity.
