Share the Plate
Once each month, we share our collection plate with a member-nominated non-profit organization whose mission and values align with ours. Our Unitarian Universalist principles call for us to work for justice and humanity. By reaching out to the community, we are showing San Antonio who we are and for what we stand.
We provide our congregation information about the recipient organization each month. In addition to raising awareness and donating financially, Share the Plate offers opportunities for our members to develop and deepen connections with these non-profit organizations. Our vision is that we will not only give money, but stay in contact and get involved. To that end, we maintain a list of previous recipients on our site, with links to the organizations’ websites.
To be nominated for Share the Plate, an organization must meet the following qualifications:
- It must be a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission of service, advocacy, or direct action.
- It must be either a local organization or a UU affiliated organization that is not already receiving budgeted support from First UU.
Note: Nominators of selected Share the Plate recipients will serve as the liaison to connect the organization, the Share-the-Plate coordinator and the congregation.
To nominate an organization, email the following information by April 10th to email@example.com
- The name of the organization.
- A one-sentence description of the organization for the ballot.
- The organization’s Web site.
A list of the qualified nominations with links to their websites will appear in late April. In May, at our Annual Meeting, First UU members will mark their choices on a ballot. The nine organizations with the highest votes will be assigned a month, and as the date approaches, the coordinator and the nominator will promote Share the Plate.
