Islam and the Qur’an

September 8 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 9:30 am on Sunday, repeating until October 13, 2019

We will begin with an historical overview of Islam and Muhammad. Next, we will explore some common stories, themes and characters that appear in the Qur’an and the Old and New Testaments (Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and His Mother, Satan and Afterlife) from a literary, theological, and historical perspective. We will be guided at least in part by Karen Armstrong’s books Islam and Muhammad, God in the Qur’an, by Jack Miles and The Islamic Jesus, by Mustafa Akyol. It is not necessary to read the books to participate in the class, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
